Almond Cookies

 

¾ cup blanched slivered almonds

¾ cup sugar

2 Tbsp all purpose flour

5 Tbsp chilled unsalted butter, cut into ½ inch pieces

1 Tbsp milk

 

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  Line baking sheet with parchment paper.  Finely grind almonds, sugar, and flour in processor.   Add butter and process until coarse crumbs form.  Add milk and blend until mixture forms ball (dough will be very soft and sticky).  Place 6 heaping teaspoons of dough on parchment, spacing 3 to 4 inches apart.  Press dough with wet fingertips to flatten into 1 ½ inch rounds.  Bake until cookies are golden brown all over, rotating baking sheet if necessary to brown evenly, about 9 minutes.  Cool cookies on parchment 5 minutes.  Transfer cookies to rack and cool.  Repeat same procedure for remaining dough.
