Cheesy Golden Onion Soup

 

1/8 cup margarine or butter

1 ½ tsp. packed brown sugar

½ tsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 lrg. onion, cut into fourths, and sliced

1 can condensed beef broth (10 ½ oz)

1 can water (10 ½ oz)

any type croutons

2 cups mozzarella

 

Preheat oven 325 degrees.  Melt margarine in glass oven.  Stir in brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce.  Toss onions in margarine mixture.  Bake uncovered about 2 ½ hours, stirring every hour, until onions are deep golden brown.  Stir in broth and water.  Heat to boiling.  Spoon soup into ovenproof bowls.  Top with croutons.  Sprinkle each serving with shredded mozzarella cheese.  Place bowls in shallow baking pan.  Broil with tops close to the heat for about 2 minutes, until cheese is melted and light brown.
